Lancaster Real Estate History

Settled in 1750 by Waxhaw Native Americans, the town of Lancaster was founded in 1802. The rich history of the town makes it a natural place for museums and education including the L & C Railroad Museum and University of South Carolina in Lancaster, established in 1959. Lancaster Real Estate includes two buildings designed by America's first native architect and the designer of the Washington Monument, Mr. Robert Mills. The Courthouse and old jail are still used in a variety of capacities even today. Troops under General William Tecumseh Sherman occupied the town during the Civil War on their way to Virginia in 1865.
