The Town of Troutman's dates back as far as the 1750's. Immigrants from Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Maryland moved into the area because of the abundance of land. The forests made an excellent setting for trading fur and logs for building cabins, schools, churches and businesses. It is named after one of the original land-owners, John Jacob Trautman.
The town of Troutman is serviced by the Iredell-Statesville School System, which ranks among the 20 largest school districts in North Carolina with the average teacher in having 15 years of teaching experience. Student performance places Iredell-Statesville Schools among the top 25% of school districts in the state. SAT scores, graduation rate, and writing scores are among the best in North Carolina.
