North Carolina is full of small towns with charm and Wingate Real Estate is no exception. Wingate is a town located in Union County and considered a suburb of the greater Charlotte area. It is a town with vision for the future. I 2008, Wingate residents and elected officials have partnered with the town of Marshville to design a unified economic development strategy to take this town into the next century with positive growth and commitment to preserving heritage. The town famous for being home to Wingate University and the Jesse Helms Center. This charming town even has an official flower: the Daffodil. Wingate population is 2006 was 3,827.

Wingate Real Estate History

Earliest settlers in town date back to the mid-1800s with the building of Meadow Branch Baptist Church and school. The town of Wingate was formally established in 1901. The aforementioned school was named for Baptist Minister, Washington Manley Wingate. The school was a center of town life, and still is. In 1896, The Wingate School became Wingate College which has become Wingate University.

Wingate Real Estate Recreation

The Town of Wingate has two parks, Wingate Community Park and Highland Park Playground. Wingate Community Park is a 20-acre site with baseball fields, concession stands, bathrooms, picnic shelter, walking trails and a children's playground. Future plans include a community center. The Highland Park Playground is a 2-acre pocket park complete with playground and a basketball court.—it’s a great place to read a book and watch the kids play!

Wingate Homes for Sale and Education

Wingate’s small town is great for raising a family with children. Wingate public education needs are served by the Union County Public Schools. For the third year in a row, seniors in this school system on the average, scored higher than seniors taking the SAT on both the state and the national level. The 2007-08 scores released August 26 showed a combined math and verbal score for UCPS to be 1024. North Carolina seniors scored 1007 and national scores were 1017. That’s something the entire community can be proud of!
